Meet the Team

GILES WARD
Director

Giles graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Civil Engineering. He joined Howard Ward Associates in 1996, prior to which he spent 7 years with a major international engineering consultancy, primarily designing bridges, including the Second Severn Crossing. He also spent a year on site as part of the Resident Engineer’s Team widening the M25. He has been a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers since 1994.

Across the broad range of projects he has been involved with during his career, Giles above all enjoys problem solving and finding the optimum solution that makes a difference for his client – whether this is in the context of a multi-million pound commercial development or the smallest of residential alterations. He is experienced in the investigation of potential defects in existing structures, his work ranging from straightforward reports for those buying or selling a house through to advising on complex legal disputes, where he regularly acts as an expert witness. He has a particular interest in historical buildings for which sensitive conservation must go hand in hand with modern structural design and enjoys acting as a mentor to colleagues as they work to become qualified or chartered.

When away from work Giles enjoys DIY (the trickier the better) and watching cricket. He is also looking forward to exploring the country, if not the world, in his new camper van.
