Senior/Principal Engineer (Reporting)

About The Role

We are looking to strengthen our successful Structural Engineers Reports team. This team is highly regarded and primarily investigates structural/building problems and advises on remedial actions. It also undertakes small scale structural design projects. Our clients are in both domestic and commercial sectors.

The successful candidate will either hold Chartered Engineer status through membership of either the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), or be very close to achieving it.

While the role available is full time, we are also open to accommodating a reduced working week of no less than 22.5 hours. Hybrid home/office working is also a possibility, making this an attractive opportunity for those seeking work-life balance.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigation: Engage in thorough examinations of structural and building problems to identify defects and their causes. Research, review and understand documents prepared by other professionals that relate to and inform the outputs of the role.
  • Remedial Solutions: Determine effective and innovative remedial actions to address defects and their causes.
  • Report Writing: Create detailed, clear, and concise reports, ensuring they meet the highest professional and company quality standards.
  • Effective Communication: Collaborate proactively and communicate effectively with team members and others to share insights, seek advice, and contribute to collective problem-solving.
  • Assignment Management: Monitor time and resources to ensure assignments are ‘on plan’ in relation to fees and budget, taking action and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Fee Management: Determine fees in accordance with company policies, ensuring invoices are raised in a timely manner.
  • Client Engagement: Collaborate closely with our domestic and commercial clients to understand their unique needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all outputs adhere to industry standards and all relevant regulations.

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and either Chartered Engineer status or the expectation thereof shortly
  • Experience in the construction industry providing structural investigation services
  • Excellent communication skills, including effective report writing and explaining findings verbally, considering the needs of non-technical clients
  • Ability to carry out simple structural design using both hand calculations and computer-based techniques
  • A good working knowledge of other engineering disciplines and the wider aspects of construction
  • Competence in using administrative software packages, including Microsoft Office
  • Full UK driving licence

Our office is based in Radcliffe on Trent, which has ample free parking and excellent transport links. We also have co-working office space in Nottingham city centre and are happy for our team to work from home for part of each week. Civil Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a new team member to support the growth of our Civil Engineering team. The successful candidate will play an important to a variety of projects across the UK role delivering civil engineering design solutions including:

  • External Works design
  • Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) Design
  • Flood Risk Assessment
  • Highways Design
  • Earthworks Analysis
  • Drainage Strategy Design


This will typically entail the development and delivery of technical civil engineering solutions to the working stages of projects including private external works and drainage, adoptable highways and drainage design approvals. The role will be externally facing in delivery and there will be the opportunity to be involved with pre planning strategic stages. The role would suit someone with civil engineering detailed design experience looking to progress and develop this knowledge in a small, flexible business environment. Experience of Sustainable Drainage Systems, highways and drainage adoption process would be beneficial.

About You

  • Knowledge of relevant software packages including MicroDrainage, Flow, AutoCAD and ground modelling packages
  • Knowledge of Highways Design Standards and Sewers for Adoption

  • Strong communication, personal effectiveness and team working capabilities
