Reflecting on 2024, a year of milestones, achievements and togetherness

As 2024 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on a year filled with project achievements, new beginnings, and cherished memories. 

This year, we welcomed new colleagues to the HWA family while bidding a fond farewell to others. Our employee satisfaction survey confirmed HWA is a great place to work! The vast majority of responses reflected a high level of satisfaction with our organisational culture, work environment, and interpersonal relationships. A true testament to the dedication and commitment of our entire team in creating a positive and supportive workplace.

We celebrated the well-deserved promotion of Jack Thompson to Senior Engineer and an incredible milestone for our Practice Manager, Michaela Towers, who marked 20 years with HWA.

Our financial year end in April closed our most productive year to date showing 20% growth over the previous year.

In June, we reinforced our commitment to employee well-being by introducing the YuLife app. This innovative platform not only provides comprehensive financial protection but also encourages our team to stay active and prioritise their health. 

June also saw us continuing our 14 years or ISO 9001 certification, underscoring our commitment to quality management.

In September, we launched our inaugural Sustainable September initiative, engaging in activities like community litter picking and promoting sustainable practices throughout the month. This followed the conclusion of our collaboration with Nottingham Trent University on their low carbon consultancy project earlier in the year.

The project achievements for 2024 have not slowed down and have included: 

• Work starting on a distribution and manufacturing warehouse in North Nottinghamshire
• Completion and handover of new mixed-use PBSA and Retail building in Brighton
• Significant progress on our Longwood Drive (Coventry) and Talbot Street (Nottingham) PBSA accommodation developments
• Planning consents for new housing project schemes in Rock Valley, Jacksdale and Newark
• Completion of a housing scheme in Lincoln
• Completion of care home developments in Sheringham, Woodthorpe, Hinckley and Blackburn
• Work starting on new care homes in Hunstanton, Lubbesthorpe and Newport Pagnell
• Inspections of premises to check suitability for solar panel installations, which equates to the installation of over 40,000 panels
• Structural inspections and advice provided in respect of domestic dwellings
• Structural advice and designs provided in respect of redevelopment of existing buildings and commercial premises

This year was also filled with opportunities to connect as a team outside the office. The highlights included: 

• Our annual summer party held jointly with Franklin Ellis Architects, at their beautifully restored Victorian Pumping Station in Nottingham
• A team day exploring the scenic trails of the Peak District
• Bowling and karaoke in celebration of Director Dave Taylder’s 40th birthday
• The 20th anniversary of Nottingham Hot Property, where both Dave Taylder and Managing Director Dan Bailey took the stage as rock stars for one night only! We were proud to be part of the sponsorship team this year
• An evening of mini golf to bid farewell to placement student Dami Akingbade
• A re-boot of our Curry Club
• A fantastic Christmas celebration in London to finish the year
