Completed in January 2022, Sherwood Lodge is a new joint Police and Fire headquarters building located in the Arnold area of Nottingham.
The three-storey structure is an open plan building with annexed sports/training hall including a multi-agency strategic and tactical control room, police control room and training classrooms. As well as a number of shared offices there is a canteen, gym, sports hall and changing rooms. Positioned on land behind the current Police HQ at Sherwood Lodge, the new building forms part of the wider campus of existing facilities and includes a new access road with a total of 940 car parking spaces. Alongside, minor alterations were done to the existing building to optimise their usage.
For the new building we designed a steel frame with a profiled metal deck floor. The traditional steel frame is formed with columns approximately 10x7m and due to the relatively long spans (10m) the steel beams have been designed to act compositely with the concrete floor deck to maximise the efficiency of the structure.
