This project was procured directly by The Rushcliffe Academy Trust to provide high quality teaching, social and study space for sixth form students and the main school.

HWA were involved from the inception of the project, providing ground investigation and transport consultancy works, as well as initial civil and structural ‘scheme design’ services in the feasibility and pre planning stages. This was to enable a coordinated RIBA Stage C+ design to be presented in a funding bid to the LSC and to facilitate a successful Planning Application.

Working in conjunction with Church Lukas, DH Squires and Pulse Associates, a tender package was produced which provided a strategic advantage in the project delivery, which led to funding success.

HWA worked with Nottinghamshire County Council to negotiate a solution to the highways works associated with the project and provided post contract civil and structural engineering design services to suit the construction design.

The building is a steel framed structure incorporating exposed elements of precast concrete flooring to maintain a high exposed thermal mass for energy efficiency. A structural masonry inner skin was designed to provide support and restraint to the varying external materials.  Secondary steelwork provided the required support for brise soleil and other louvre and glazing elements.
