Working with Frank Shaw Associates Architects and D & D Consulting Ltd, HWA were appointed by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to undertake the procurement and construction design of a fire station located off York Road in Killingbeck, Leeds.

The site was previously a petrol filling station with a significant foul water sewer and culverted watercourse running through it. These both required diversion to facilitate the development of the site. Negotiation with Yorkshire Water and Leeds City Council led to a successful procurement and construction solution for the resolution of these significant constraints. Considerable earthworks were then required to ensure the suitability of the site for the proposed use.

The project included a vehicle wash down, an appliance refuelling facility, a training tower and a Young Fire Squad building on the site. There were also vehicle service pits within the appliance bays, a substantial training water retention tank as well as grey water recycling facilities and an RTA vehicle compound.
