We have been monitoring our carbon emissions for 3 years now and are pleased to report that the sustainable initiatives we put in place have resulted in a significant reduction in our carbon emissions. As we head towards our target of being carbon neutral by 2033, we recently reviewed our Carbon Management Action Plan to identify further reduction opportunities.
To enhance our efforts, we have undertaken micro-offsetting using My Square Metre, an organisation dedicated to planting square metres of protected meadowland with wildflowers. For a relatively small donation, we have offset the 53kgCO2e generated from our paper purchases, funding 17.67 square meters of meadowland planting and the growth of over 8,800 wildflowers.
Our gas consumption has seen the most significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to our baseline. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we introduced a hybrid working policy, allowing our staff to work from home for a portion of the week. This initiative has allowed us to free up desk space and merge our staff into one large office in our building. As a result, this small change to our working environment meant we could turn down the heating, which has led to a remarkable 33.89% reduction in gas carbon emissions.
Reducing carbon emissions is a cause we are deeply passionate about. We are looking forward to our Sustainable September month, during which the entire team will engage in sustainable practices that can be applied both in our office and in our homes. This initiative will help us continue to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
