We’re proud to announce that HWA has joined the Endometriosis Friendly Employer scheme, run by Endometriosis UK. By signing up, we are publicly affirming our commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive workplace where employees affected by endometriosis can thrive.
Endometriosis is a long-term, chronic condition that affects 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth. Despite its prevalence, it often goes undiagnosed for an average of 8 years, causing significant physical, emotional, and professional strain during that time. The economic impact is considerable, with lost working hours, treatment costs, and broader healthcare implications affecting both individuals and the wider economy.
Awareness remains low, partly because of the condition’s link to the menstrual cycle and the historic marginalisation of so-called “women’s issues” in medical and social discourse.
With our industry of engineering being traditionally male dominated, it is more important than ever for companies like ours to commit to tackling stigma, promoting open conversations, and fostering a culture of understanding. Raising awareness won’t just benefit those living with endometriosis, it also supports colleagues, family members, and friends who are connected to someone affected.
Together, we want to create a workplace where no one feels the need to suffer in silence.
