At last, some summer fun

Ian, our Senior Technician, is moving to pastures new so we got together last week to say goodbye and to thank him for all the hard work put in over the last seven years.

The garden party, with a delicious buffet from local coffee shop ‘The Humble Cat’ also served as a postponed leaving do for Engineers Darryl and John who left HWA last autumn. The mini marquee was pitched expertly by Jo and Michaela next door in the Scout Hall garden (many thanks to Radcliffe on Trent Scout Group for the loan) and decorated with  bunting and banners. The fun began with a picture quiz, won by team Jo and Dan and continued with the buffet and presentation of some John Lewis vouchers for Darryl and Waterford Crystal gin glasses for Ian, who was also presented with a souvenir photo album of his participation in many social events over the years. This collection was of course dedicated to him as our esteemed Curry Club President, an honour now bestowed upon him for life!

Next, and very appropriately given our line of work, came competitive giant Jenga. Under Richard’s expert Structural Engineers Reports watchful eye and with ‘helpful’ comments by all, I’m very much hoping the structures designed in work are a bit less wonky than this one!

It was a lovely afternoon, made especially nice as it’s been such a long time since we have all been able to be together in person.
