A new addition to the HWA team, introducing Director Paul Elphick

In July 2026, Paul joined our team, bringing with him a wealth of technical expertise, leadership experience, and industry knowledge. With a degree in Civil Engineering from Kingston University, he became a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2006. He began his engineering career as a Graduate Engineer, spending over 6 years developing his technical foundations before joining a major engineering consultancy in Derby, where he built a successful 22-year career.

Paul has been inspired by the people he has worked with and the opportunities they have provided throughout his career. From securing his first role during a challenging period for the UK construction industry to earning the trust of senior leadership to establish a new regional office, his journey has been shaped by collaboration, determination, and professional growth.

Passionate about personal development and continuous improvement, Paul is always looking for ways to expand his skills and knowledge. With nearly 3 decades in the profession, he has developed extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complex projects and building lasting client relationships. He is committed to delivering the best outcomes for clients while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for colleagues. For Paul, engineering is about solving problems, taking ownership and delivering practical, effective solutions.

Among the many projects he has worked on throughout his career, Paul particularly enjoys the renovation and restoration of listed and historic buildings. Bringing these structures back to life through sensitive and sympathetic engineering solutions is something he finds especially rewarding and remains a key part of his professional ethos.

At HWA, Paul is looking forward to using his extensive experience and technical expertise to help drive business growth, support and mentor colleagues, and continue building strong relationships with clients.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys DIY projects and has a particular interest in carpentry, with a garden pergola being one of his most recent creations. His fascination with older buildings extends beyond the workplace, and he enjoys understanding the challenges and craftsmanship involved in renovating period properties.
